Black Stars striker, Inaki Williams has reflected on Athletic Bilbao’s Copa del Rey semi-final defeat to Real Sociedad on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

The Black Stars forward, who is the captain of Athletic Bilbao started and played for 56 minutes, as his outfit succumbed to a narrow defeat to Sociedad in the first leg tie, held at the Estadio de San Mamaos.

The first half of the much-anticipated clash ended in a pulsating goalless draw, as both teams struggled to find the net.

Putting on a stellar performance, Real Sociedad prevailed in the second half of the match, with Spain international Benat Turrientes netting the only goal of the match to secure an all-important away win.

However, the Ghanaian international has shifted his focus to the Spanish La Liga, stressing his outfit must regain confidence to secure victory in their next league match.

“We will focus on the league. The best thing we can do is regain confidence and get three points in the league. We must be a team for 90 minutes, not just 45. We have to press and play in the opponent’s half.” he said.

Real Sociedad will play host to Athletic Bilbao in the reverse fixture of the Copa del Rey semifinal at the Estadio Municipal de Anoeta on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

The 31-year-old Ghanaian international has made 23 appearances across all competitions for Athletic Bilbao this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
