Ignite Media Group (IMG), owners of Metro TV, has condemned the armed invasion of their premises during the live broadcast of Good Morning Ghana on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
In a statement, IMG stated that the auctioneer and Director of Geld Mart, George Addo, entered the studio with a bailiff and armed police officers, abruptly halting the broadcast.
IMG further indicated that the invasion caused fear and panic among the television staff and security personnel.
“This unfortunate incident led to staff and security personnel resisting what we considered an improper and irregular attempt to disrupt a live programme, causing fear and panic to the host and panelists. The auctioneer and armed police officers used excessive force, resulting in a head injury to a private security officer stationed at Metro TV, and the programme was abruptly terminated,” portions of the statement said.
In response, the Ghana Police Service clarified in a statement that its officers were acting upon a court request and escorted the bailiff and judgment creditor to execute a court order against Metro TV.
The service also confirmed that investigations into the incident have begun and urged the company’s staff to remain calm during the ongoing investigations.
A group of armed men, including police officers, invaded the premises of the television station on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, and attempted to gain access to the studio where ‘Good Morning Ghana’ was being broadcast live.
