Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has applauded his players for a resilient away performance, highlighting their successful adaptation to a new tactical approach in a 0-0 draw against Bibiani GoldStars.

Speaking after the Ghana Premier League match on Saturday, the coach expressed clear satisfaction with his squad’s response to recent criticism and pressure.

“Tactically, we came in with a game plan, and the game plan worked to perfection,” Zito stated. “If you look at how we played today and the way we played in Kumasi, there is a lot of difference in today’s game, and I’m very satisfied with the way the boys played.”

The point earned at Dun’s Park in Bibiani follows a period of intense scrutiny for Zito and his team. The coach had recently lamented a loss of the club’s identity amid inconsistent results, including a disappointing goalless draw at home to Berekum Chelsea.

The improved defensive solidity and tactical discipline shown against the defending champions, GoldStars, were welcomed signs of progress.

The result keeps Kotoko in fourth place in the league standings with 32 points from 19 matches. However, they remain eight points behind league leaders Medeama SC, meaning the Porcupine Warriors must turn these hard-earned draws into wins to mount a serious challenge for the title they last won in 2022.

For Coach Zito, the performance offers a foundation to build upon as he seeks to recapture the team’s rhythm and identity in the second half of the season.
