Black Stars forward Osman Bukari has opened up about his famous “Siuu” celebration during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. While the Black Stars trailed 3-1 against Portugal, Bukari performed the iconic celebration after pulling one back for Ghana.
However, with Ghana desperately trying to salvage a point and just minutes left on the clock, some fans were unhappy with his celebration. Many believed he should have quickly grabbed the ball and initiated a fast restart to give Ghana a better chance of securing the much-needed equalizer.
Nonetheless, speaking to KVUE News, Bukari revealed that in Ghana, his identity is largely tied to the Ronaldo-style celebration rather than his overall football achievements.
“In Ghana, a lot of people know me because of that celebration. If I go to Ghana and my name is mentioned, people ask, ‘Who is Bukari?’ and the response is, ‘He’s the one who did the Ronaldo celebration,’” he said.
The Black Stars ultimately suffered a 3-2 defeat to Portugal but bounced back to claim all three points against South Korea in their next game, thanks to a brace from Mohammed Kudus and a goal from Mohammed Salisu.
Despite this victory, Ghana endured a disappointing exit from the World Cup, managing just one win in three games after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay in their final group-stage match.
