Ghana international Mohammed Salisu says he is not surprised to be playing regularly for AS Monaco at the moment.

The Black Stars centre-back endured a difficult campaign last term, making just 24 appearances across competitions for the French club. The former Real Valladolid marksman was predominantly used as a back-up option, with his last start for Monaco coming in February last season.

This season, the Black Stars defender has regained his starting spot at Monaco, having started the last seven games for the French outfit.

And according to Salisu, he is not surprised to be playing regularly in the current campaign.

“I gave myself the chance to earn this spot by working hard, and that’s why I’m not surprised to be playing regularly now. In training, I’m improving and making sure to stay as disciplined as possible, and I’ve been doing that since the restart,” he said.

The 26-year-old centre-back has made six appearances in the French Ligue 1 for Monaco, scoring one goal across the period. In the Champions League, Salisu has racked up three appearances.

The defender joined Monaco in the summer of 2023, signing a five-year deal with the Principality club. Since joining Monaco, the Black Stars defender has racked up 46 appearances, scoring four goals and an assist across the period.
