Gospel musician Empress Gifty has said she isn’t bothered by comments that she sounds like Kuami Eugene on her latest track, “Watch Me.”

During an interview on Joy FM, she explained that the resemblance was intentional.

According to her, the song was recorded in Kuami Eugene’s studio, using his pre-composed template.

“Kuami Eugene did not sing anything in that song. It’s because I recorded in Kuami Eugene’s studio and Kuami Eugene had everything, he had already composed everything. He has the template when it comes to him.

“So I said I didn’t want to sound like Empress. I wanted something different. So I did the backing, I did everything,” she said.

When asked if this approach affected her own craft, she confidently replied that it did not. She noted that the focus was on delivering the song, which Kuami Eugene wrote, arranged, and produced.

“I am here talking about ‘Watch Me’ so it doesn’t take anything. The most important thing is that Kuami wrote the song and I delivered,” she said.

“Watch Me” is a gospel song with a highlife influence, celebrating God’s power to transform difficult situations. The song was written, arranged and produced by Kuami Eugene.
