Highlife musician AratheJay has called for collective efforts from Ghanaian music lovers and creatives to help improve the country’s music industry.
In a video interview shared on Instagram on April 11, 2025, AratheJay reflected on his experience performing on the same stage with Stonebwoy in the UK.
He emphasised the need for Ghanaians, especially those within the creative space, to rethink how they treat their artistes.
“I just want to say we can work on our show culture, our entertainment culture. I mean, it starts from somewhere. It starts from even how the artistes support each other. It starts from all that. For families to know that it’s not wrong to love Shatta Wale and still listen to a Stonebwoy song,” he said.
“Because at the end of the day, it’s about the music. It’s not even about the fun. It’s about the message,” he added.
AratheJay warned that if Ghanaians don’t begin to treat their artistes better, the country will be left with only complaints, while musicians continue to seek support and appreciation from international audiences.
“When we don’t do away with these kinds of things, we’ll always be complaining. And we (the artistes) will always go outside to a more welcoming audience than our own people here, because of these silly mentalities and all that,” he stated.
