Black Sherif has broken his silence on the rising predictions that he will sweep the top categories, including Artist of the Year, at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

During an interview with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio on Hitz FM, the award-winning artiste was asked how he felt about being tipped as the front-runner for the prestigious honour.

“We deserve it, don’t you think?” he said with a confident smile, drawing laughter from others in the studio.

Black Sherif explained that while personal recognition is gratifying, any win would primarily belong to his supporters.

“My fans will be happy. And the award, if I want it, I want it for the fans. It is a validation for them. My own validation is in the music I compose,” he said.

He further observed that though awards are valuable, his main priority is staying true to his craft and maintaining an authentic bond with his listeners.

Over the last few years, Black Sherif has become one of Ghana’s most impactful musical voices, blending highlife, hip-hop, and drill to create a deeply emotional and globally resonant sound.

His 2022 debut album ‘The Villain I Never’ Was earned critical acclaim and reached No. 12 on the Billboard World Albums Chart. His 2025 follow-up, Iron Boy, made history as the first Ghanaian album to spend two consecutive weeks in the US Apple Music Top 50.

‘Iron Boy’ also set streaming records on Spotify and peaked at No. 10 on the US World Albums Chart and No. 5 on Nigeria’s Top 100, reinforcing Black Sherif’s growing international influence.
