If I Had a Second Chance, I’d Do Things Differently – Selina Boateng Reflects On Marriage

Gospel singer Selina Boateng is opening up about the lessons marriage has taught her and the regrets she carries.

Speaking on Onua FM’s Efie Ne Fie Drive Time with Ohemaa Acheampoma, Selina reflected on how her understanding of marriage has changed since she said “I do.” If given another chance, she says, she would’ve approached things very differently.

“Marriage has opened my eyes in so many ways,” she admitted. “If I had the chance to go back and make changes or amend certain decisions, I honestly would—because until you’re inside the walls of marriage, you’ll never truly understand what it is.”

She likened the shift in expectations to a color illusion. “You may think something is red until you get in and realize it’s green. You think it’s white, but it’s actually yellow.” Her message: the reality of marriage often clashes with the idealistic images people hold before entering it.

For those still unmarried, Selina offered heartfelt advice—ground your decisions in prayer, not pressure.

“My prayer for anyone looking forward to marriage is this: May God go ahead of you and grant you a high level of wisdom, Solomon’s kind of wisdom, to choose the right partner. Because if you end up with the wrong person, it will be nothing short of hell. And I say this from experience,” she said with conviction.

Selina Boateng emphasized that spiritual discernment, not public opinion or material considerations, should guide one’s path to marriage.

“So I beg you, before you enter any marital union, go on your knees. Cry out to God for wisdom and understanding. Ask that the person coming into your life is not doing so because of your money, fame, or beauty, but because the two of you are meant to come together and fulfill God’s purpose,” she added.

When asked what she would’ve done differently, Selina offered a brutally honest answer: “I would not have listened more.”

She elaborated: “People will pressure you: ‘You’re aging,’ ‘You’re late,’ ‘Just marry or just have kids.’ Don’t listen to that. You alone know the fire you’re walking into, and only you will endure it.”
