They probably spend their Friday nights cooking a family dinner and preparing for the children’s swim class the next morning.

But Britain’s mums and dads secretly long to be out tearing up the dancefloor.

A poll has found that a whopping 60 per cent of parents yearn to return to their child-free clubbing days, even trying to recapture their youth by playing their old favourite tunes with their kids.

Music spanning the last 60 years featured on a set list of tunes they pine over the most. Topping the poll was the 1992 hit Rhythm Is A Dancer by Snap!, which was on 28 per cent of voters’ lists.

It was closely followed by Abba’s Dancing Queen from 1976 – voted for by 27 per cent.

Daft Punk held two spots in the top ten, with One More Time in sixth place and Get Lucky coming in eighth place.

The DJ duo are also in the top five acts we’d like to guest DJ our kitchen discos, along with David Guetta, Fatboy Slim, Calvin Harris and Avicii.

The survey, conducted by Holiday Villages, Tui’s family hotel brand, found that Britons have even tried to recapture the club in their own home.

Some 67 per cent of parents have hit the kitchen dancefloor with their children, with 50 per cent acting as DJ in their own at-home disco.

And 73 per cent of families also admitted they have the most fun together when tearing up the dance floor. Demand is now booming for family raves and daytime clubbing events, such as a ‘Daytime Disco’ held by Line Of Duty’s Vicky McClure, which runs until just 8pm. Searches for the events have increased by 53 per cent since 2023.

Holiday Villages’ Natalie Johnson said: ‘We’ve totally re-vamped our entertainment programme. Research showed a massive demand for high energy themed nights… with a pumped-up vibe, vibrant staging and lighting, face paints, lots of neon and feature DJ sets, live performances and dance-floor action.’
