Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Akyenpim Jantuah says she would not have been offended if Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin had described her as a “nobody” in a private conversation rather than making the remark publicly.

She said the presence of media personnel and members of other political parties made the comment particularly troubling.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen on Thursday, August 6, Nana Yaa Jantuah said she expected disagreements during political engagements but believed such exchanges should be guided by mutual respect.

“If Afenyo-Markin had used ‘nobody’ remarks privately, I wouldn’t be angry. If he had told me this off air, I wouldn’t be hurt.”

She questioned why the Minority Leader chose to make such a statement in front of journalists and party members.

“Look at the number of media personnel on the ground and everywhere. What is he talking about?”

Nana Yaa Jantuah said she has always shown respect to Mr Afenyo-Markin whenever they meet but believes respect must be mutual.

“I give you a lot of respect when I see you, but you don’t want to give respect.”

She further argued that the Minority Leader’s comments were also an attack on the President’s decision to nominate her to receive the NPP’s petition.

She added that the focus should have been on the concerns raised in the petition rather than questioning the person assigned to receive it.
