Dr. Kamal-Deen and Prof. Gyampo

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has thrown its full support behind Dr. Kamal-Deen Ali and Prof. Ransford Gyampo following their recent appointments as Acting Director-General of the Ghana Maritime Authority and Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority, respectively.

In a statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Samson A. Awingobit, the association congratulated the two appointees, describing their new roles as a call to duty rather than mere recognition from the President. According to IEAG, their appointments are based on competence and the ability to drive meaningful reforms in Ghana’s maritime and trade sector.

The maritime industry is a crucial pillar of Ghana’s economy, facilitating trade, commerce, and logistics. The Ghana Maritime Authority and the Ghana Shippers’ Authority play pivotal roles in ensuring smooth shipping operations, regulatory oversight, and fostering a business-friendly environment for importers and exporters.

With their new mandates, Dr. Kamal-Deen Ali and Prof. Ransford Gyampo are expected to lead efforts in making these institutions more efficient, transparent, and responsive to the needs of stakeholders. The IEAG emphasized the need for reforms to address bureaucratic bottlenecks, high port charges, inconsistent trade policies, and logistical inefficiencies that have long hindered business operations at Ghana’s ports.

IEAG reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the newly appointed leaders to tackle the longstanding challenges facing the maritime industry. The association believes that through strategic engagement and practical policy interventions, the sector can be repositioned to enhance Ghana’s global trade competitiveness.

Additionally, the association urged Dr. Kamal-Deen Ali and Prof. Ransford Gyampo to prioritize the ease of doing business by implementing policies that simplify processes for importers and exporters.

“Their leadership must bring about practical solutions that will enhance Ghana’s competitiveness in the global trade space,” the statement emphasized.

As the maritime sector undergoes this leadership transition, industry players remain hopeful that the new appointees will champion policies and initiatives that will drive efficiency, reduce operational costs, and create a more conducive business environment for traders.

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana looks forward to working hand in hand with the newly appointed leaders to achieve lasting transformation in Ghana’s maritime and shipping industry.
