Ibrahim Sannie Daara, former Communications Director of the GFA

Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has shared an emotional response to the controversial match between Dreams FC and Accra Lions on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

Sannie Daara revealed that he was moved to tears over what he described as questionable refereeing decisions that marred the game, echoing the sentiments of many disgruntled fans.

“For the first time in 20 years, I shed tears at 1 am when I saw highlights of Dreams FC vs. Accra Lions. I have firsthand knowledge of the millions of dollars Lions have invested in Ghana football, and seeing this being undermined was too painful. I am a human being; I have a soul,” he wrote.

The match, officiated by referee Maxwell Hanson, has sparked a social media outcry, with Accra Lions alleging that the referee’s decisions were biased.

Accra Lions further intensified the debate by releasing video highlights of the game, showcasing several contentious calls by the referee.

These decisions have caught the attention of fans, including Daara, who took to his social media page to express his frustration.

While Dreams FC has since denied the allegations through an official statement, the Ghana Football Association has yet to address the concerns raised by both clubs and the broader public.
