Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has endorsed the proposal to increase the GFA presidential term limit from two to three terms.

The recommendation, put forward by the Statutes Review Committee, will be tabled at the GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress scheduled for Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

While the proposal has been met with criticism from some member clubs, Sannie Daara — who now holds a senior role with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) — believes the extension is necessary for the sustained growth and stability of football in the country.

“Leading the Football Association is no easy task. Implementing a vision and addressing the systemic challenges takes time,” he told the media.

“We’ve all seen the progress made under Kurt Okraku’s leadership, and I believe there’s nothing wrong with extending the term limit.”

He further argued that allowing more time in office would strengthen Ghana’s influence at continental and global levels.

“If we aim to have a presence within CAF and FIFA, the impact of our FA leadership must be significant and long-term. That won’t happen within just two terms,” he added.

The proposal is expected to be one of the key talking points at next week’s Congress.
