Former Ghana defender Sam Johnson has said that he would not have played for the Black Stars if he were in the shoes of Baba Rahman.

He explained that with the kind of criticisms Rahman has suffered at the hands of Ghanaian football fans, it would not make sense for him to return.

The former defender stated that it would be better for Rahman to focus on his club football to regain his best form after sustaining an injury to aid his career.

“If I were him [Baba Rahman], I would not come [and play for the Black Stars again] because he has suffered a lot from Ghanaians. I don’t care whether I’m playing like Messi or Ronaldo,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rahman has said he is willing to make himself available for selection for the Black Stars when he is fit.

The PAOK defender stressed that some Ghanaian football fans have been calling on him to return to the national team, which he appreciates and will do so at the appropriate time.

The left-back last featured for his country in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Central African Republic (CAR) in Kumasi in September 2023.
