Ghanaian dancehall musician, Stonebwoy, has made a bold statement regarding the controversies that came up during the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
In an interview on Joy Prime shared on X on July 17, 2025, the sensational dancehall artiste noted that he believes he won the Artiste of the Year category that year.
He explained that even though the Artiste of the Year (AOTY) category was not officially announced, information gathered indicate that he won the award.
“I had won artiste of the year three times already. The 2019 one has not been announced officially, but I am very confident, and respectfully not in any radical style, but it may be an inside information that has found its way outside in the public. So, I believe I won the Ghana Music Awards that year. I worked hard that year, anyway,” he said.
Background
In 2019, a feud escalated between two Ghanaian dancehall musicians, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, after the former was crowned the Reggae Dancehall Artiste of the Year.
The confusion started when Shatta Wale and his militants rushed onto the stage when Stonebwoy was about to receive his award.
Afraid of what could happen, Stonebwoy quickly pulled out a gun which resulted in a halt of the event.
