Highlife musician, Akwaboah Jnr

Ghanaian highlife musician Akwaboah Jnr has opened up about the emotional toll of online trolling, recounting how he felt hurt when he got attacked over a picture he took earlier in the year.

The “I Do Love You” hitmaker shared his ordeal during an interview on Okay FM on June 30, 2025.

Explaining his appearance in the photo that sparked the trolling, Akwaboah recounted a stressful workday in which he performed at a show outside Accra and had to travel to and from the city overnight.

“I had a show at Kwahu. I had to leave Accra at 8:30 in the evening, got there at midnight, did my show and a little meet and greet, and then had to get back to Accra. I got back at 7 am and still had to go to church because I can’t miss church.

“So, I didn’t sleep throughout that night. And I was so tired. After church, my wife insisted on taking a picture and decided to share on social media. Then I went to sleep. Only to wake up and some people had zoomed into my tired face and were saying things on social media about me and my marriage,” he recounted.

Despite the harsh comments, Akwaboah stated that he and his wife were not bothered by the comments.

“People mocked my looks, claimed marriage aged me, and even dragged my wife. But their trolling doesn’t pay my bills,” he said.

The musician lamented the general attitude of Ghanaians toward celebrities, stating, “I don’t know why we have reduced the industry to this. Because it is only in Ghana that we do this. But there is a wise saying that you are what you say. So, if you say bad things about people, the same will happen to you.”
