President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama, has announced that he will make a special appearance on the catwalk during the upcoming Ghana Fashion Week in July.

Speaking at the launch of the Black Star Experience in Accra on May 1, 2025, the president, known for his preference for Ghanaian-made attire, emphasised his commitment to promoting Ghanaian fashion.

“When we host the Ghana fashion week in July, I, your president, will proudly take to the catwalk,” he said.

President Mahama further revealed that he would change outfits three times during his catwalk appearance, crediting the local designers behind each ensemble.

“I always wear Made in Ghana clothes, and I have political suits all sewn by Ghanaian tailors. Because this experience is real and it belongs to all of us.

“On that day, I am going to change three times and walk on the catwalk. And anytime I walk, I will tell you which designer sewed that particular dress,” he said.

    About the Black Star Experience

The Black Star Experience is a new initiative aimed at celebrating Ghana’s cultural heritage, creativity, and economic potential through events like fashion shows, music festivals, and art exhibitions.

The program seeks to boost tourism and highlight local talent, reinforcing Ghana’s position as a hub of African innovation.

The Ghana Fashion Week, a key part of the Black Star Experience, will run for seven days in July, featuring designers, models, and industry stakeholders.

President Mahama’s participation is expected to draw significant attention to the event and the broader push for locally made products.
