    The Volta Regional Member on the Council of State, Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, has taken the oath of office, with an assurance that he will serve in accordance with the constitution.

    Making this known in a post on Facebook, on Wednesday, February 19, Gabriel Kwamigah-Atokple expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, while reflecting on the words of the president during the swearing-in ceremony held on Tuesday.

    “Yesterday I was officially sworn in as a Member of the Council of State by His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama.

    “In his address, the president emphasised the importance of good governance, transparency, and national unity. He urged Council Members to provide objective and non-partisan advice to strengthen democracy,” he wrote.

    He also reaffirmed his pledge to serve, stating, “As a Member, I pledge to hold office in accordance with and subject to the provisions of the constitution to serve with honesty, integrity, and dedication.”

    Having campaigned on a message of youth development in the Volta Region, Kwamigah-Atokple also highlighted that point again, indicating that he aims to use that as a means of economic transformation for his people.

    “Consequently, Volta Region that I represent, I would prioritise development, youth empowerment, and economic transformation in my advice to the President and leveraging my experience in social development through the Tanko Foundation, I intend to focus on initiatives that drive economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance community engagement across the region,” he added.

    Meanwhile, a former Speaker of Parliament, Edward Korbly Doe Adjaho, has been elected as the Chairman of the Council of State.

    The members of the Council of State include a former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo; a former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan; a former Chief of Defence Staff, Michael Samson-Oje; and the President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II.

    Others are: Chief of Akyem Kukuratumi, Daasebre Boamah Darko; the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II; former Supreme Court Justice, Vida Amankwah Akoto-Bamfo; the Paramount Chief of the Mankpan Traditional Area, Mankpanwura Jakpa Achor-Ade Borenyi I, former Zebila MP, Cletus Avoka, former Health Minister Dr Eunice Brookman-Amissah; former Attorney General Betty Mould Iddrisu, Cynthia Komley Adjetey; former Ambassador Molly Anim Addo and the Queen Mother of Ayima Traditional Area, Nana Saa Gyamfuaa II.

    The 16 regional representatives include: Maxwell Boakye representing the Western region, Hakeem Addae – Central region, Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I – Greater Accra; Gabriel Adovoe Kwabla Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple – Volta region; Korang Evelyn – Eastern region; Michael Addo, Western North region; Okyere Yaw – Ahafo region; Dr Kusi Boachie Yiadom – Bono region.

    The others are Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V – Bono East region; Richard Kings Atikpo – Oti region; Alhaji Muhammed Mumuni – Northern region; Abudu Seidu Sampson – Savannah region; Michael Kwame Mumuni – Upper West region; Thomas More Ditundini Adaili – Upper East region; Naa Saaka Abuba – North East region and Yaw Owusu Obimpeh – Ashanti region.

    They were sworn in by President John Mahama at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, following their successful election as representatives of the 16 regions during the Council of State elections.
