Vybz Kartel has opened up about his past experience with skin bleaching, revealing that he’s learned from his mistakes and will never go down that path again. In a candid conversation with American radio host Ebro Darden on Hot 97, Kartel reflected on some of the most personal decisions he’s made in his career.

The controversial star admitted that his decision to bleach his skin wasn’t as straightforward as it seemed at the time. “I mean, in hindsight it definitely had to do with self-love,” he said. “But on the other hand, while I was doing it, my mind wasn’t telling me that. My mind was telling me, ‘I am doing this to show my tattoo’s… I got a lot of tattoos.” Kartel acknowledged that as a Black man, he’s not alone in struggling with self-acceptance.

However, he’s now embracing his full identity and proudly describes himself as “fully melanated.” “I would never bleach again though,” he stated firmly. Kartel’s comments mark a shift towards self-acceptance and a rejection of the beauty standards that led him to bleach his skin in the past.
