Legendary Ghanaian goalkeeper Sammy Adjei has stated that he is ready to join the Black Stars for the 2026 FIFA World Cup if he receives a call‑up.

According to him, although he has not been actively involved in football for some time, he would be ready to undergo intensive three‑month training to regain his best form before the tournament begins.

The goalkeeper, who led Accra Hearts of Oak to a treble in the 2000s, stated that his goalkeeping skills are still intact and he would be glad to help the team.

Speaking in an interview with Angel FM, Sammy Adjei indicated that he is ready to honour a call-up if the Black Stars’ technical team invites him.

During the interview, the journalist asked, “So, if you are called to keep the post for Ghana at the World Cup, would you go?”

Adjei, with a serious facial expression, responded, “The World Cup is six months away, right? I can use three months for training. Let me tell you something, you see, you have experience in this job, so even when you stay at home, you can still work. It is the same for us.”

However, his comment has been questioned by some football fans who believe Adjei’s experience would be more useful as part of the technical team rather than as a goalkeeper for the tournament.
