The Ashanti Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, has expressed his desire to become the chairman of Asante Kotoko.

Chairman Wontumi admitted that his commitment to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has hindered him from serving Kotoko as he would have liked.

However, he asserted that he was confident he would one day lead the club and vowed to restore its glory days.

“Because of the NPP, sometimes I don’t serve as I’m supposed to, but I still contribute in other ways. But I know that one day, I will be Kotoko chairman. And when I become chairman, I will use money and aggression to make the team as great as it was under Herbert,” he said on Wontumi Radio.

“We all saw what Herbert did, so I will apply all of that with a bit of pride. The level I will take Kotoko to, everyone will see. But just as Jesus told Mary, ‘It’s not my time yet,’ I will also say that it’s not my turn yet,” he added.

Despite his strong political affiliations, Chairman Wontumi has a keen interest in football.

In 2022, he expressed interest in buying Premier League side Chelsea after owner Roman Abramovich put the club on the market.

However, his name was not found in the final list of bidders.

As it turned out, Chelsea was eventually bought by an American consortium led by Todd Boehly.
