Legendary Ghanaian footballer Asamoah Gyan has said that Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen not joining a big club surprised him greatly, considering his quality.

The former Sunderland forward disclosed that the Super Eagles attacker is the striker he admires most in the world due to his technique and ability to score from tight spaces.

The Black Stars’ all-time top scorer indicated that he expected big European clubs to pursue the Nigerian’s signature in the 2025/2026 summer transfer window, but that did not happen.

Speaking in an interview with Rio Ferdinand, he appealed to his favorite club, Manchester United, to sign Osimhen to bolster their attack and produce more goals.

“Osimhen is my favorite striker in the world. He plays with heart, you, he gives everything. I like those kinds of strikers. And I’m surprised the big clubs didn’t come for him this transfer window.”

“But hopefully, I’m appealing to Manchester United too, if only he wants to come because of their history and everything. That is the kind of striker we need right now because we have players on the side doing what they have to do,” he said.

Osimhen was reportedly monitored by Chelsea, Liverpool, and other top European clubs, but they paused their interest due to his high wage demands.

The prolific striker eventually joined Turkish giants Galatasaray and has been in blistering form, scoring in both the league and the UEFA Champions League.

In the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Osimhen scored four goals and provided two assists in six games, but unfortunately Nigeria were defeated by Morocco in the semi-finals, ending their chances of winning the trophy.
