I was standing feet from Trump when he dropped the Maduro bombshell: JON RAASCH on the moment that left Mar-a-Lago on a ‘knife edge’

By JON MICHAEL RAASCH, US POLITICAL REPORTER

    Published: 11:33 EST, 6 January 2026 | Updated: 20:27 EST, 6 January 2026

President Donald Trump sent shockwaves around the world on Saturday after announcing that U.S. forces had captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from his bedroom, along with his wife, Cilia Flores.

While American special forces escorted the socialist dictator to New York City, the commander in chief prepared to address the nation and the press from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

Daily Mail political reporter Jon Michael Raasch describes the ‘nervous’ atmosphere inside the room as reporters awaited the president’s remarks detailing the dramatic raid and gain clarity on ‘what comes next?’
