Ghanaian musician, Olivetheboy, has recalled how he was scared to release his hit song ‘Asylum’.

According to the singer, he was uncertain about how the public would react to the song’s controversial lyrics wrapped in a love theme.

Speaking in an interview on 3Music TV, Olivetheboy admitted that even before the release, people around him warned that the song’s content could be seen as “toxic.”

“I was a bit scared when I dropped my song Asylum because of the content in it. People came to me telling me it’s toxic. So, I was thinking about it, that it wasn’t going to do very good. The song’s content is quite harsh,” he said.

‘Asylum’ vividly portrays a heartbreaking situation, with lyrics hinting that a lover’s decision to leave could result in mental breakdown or even fatal consequences.

The narrative implies that if one partner walks away, the other could drive her to madness or even an untimely death.

The song became one of the biggest hits of 2024 and earned a nomination for ‘Most Popular Song of the Year’ at the 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
