Popular Ghanaian Afrobeats artist, OliveTheBoy, has stated that he was disappointed after missing out on the New Artiste of the Year award at the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).
The ‘Good Sin’ hitmaker was nominated for the category alongside Banzy Banero, DSL, Maya Blu, Oseikrom Sikanii, etc, but lost to King Paluta.
In an interview on Channel One TV on May 3, 2025, the Asylum hitmaker confessed, “I was really disappointed, I’m not going to lie, but I think it is what it is.”
Despite the setback, he remains optimistic, especially with his five TGMA nominations in 2025, including ‘Popular Song of the Year’ for ‘Asylum’ and Best Collaboration of the Year for ‘Favourite Story’, featuring King Promise and Sarkodie.
OliveTheBoy, born Joel Ofori Bonsu, also reflected on the making of his 2025 hit collaboration, ‘Favourite Story’, calling the high-profile collaboration “a blessing.”
He explained that the opportunity came unexpectedly after meeting King Promise at a show in 2024.
“King Promise didn’t initially reach out to me for the project. But when we met, I learnt he was working on an album and needed a quick feature. I had just a few hours to record my verse,” he said.
Rather than feeling pressured, the rising star saw the tight deadline as motivation.
“The limited time didn’t hinder me but rather encouraged me to show the world what I have within,” he said.
Since its release, ‘Favourite Story’ has become a fan favourite, further cementing OliveTheBoy’s place in Ghana’s music scene.
