Antoine Semenyo says he was eager to find the back of the net during this international break after going two years without a goal for Ghana.
The forward last scored for the Black Stars in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.
However, he ended that drought in style by opening the scoring in Ghana’s emphatic 5-0 win over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.
“I feel like every player has a period when they don’t score. Every game is an opportunity to try and get a goal; if I don’t, I focus on the next game,” he said after the game.
“I felt like, during this international break, I needed to get a goal. I’m not going to say there is any pressure.”
His early strike set the tone for a dominant Black Stars performance. Otto Addo’s men needed a win to move to the top of Group I in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and they wasted no time, scoring in just the second minute.
Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, and Ernest Nuamah also found the net as Ghana sealed a comfortable victory.
The Black Stars now shift focus to Monday’s crucial game against Madagascar in Morocco.
