Nana Afia Druwaa, a young woman believed to be the vessel for a 100-year-old deity named Akua Tia, has opened up on her childhood dreams and how her life took a spiritual turn.

The 23-year-old gained public attention during the four-day burial rites of Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III. She exhibited mannerisms far beyond her age, walking with a stick, moving like an elderly woman, and performing rituals that reflected the spirit of an ancient being.

Speaking extensively in an aftermath interview with GHPage TV, she revealed that growing up, her dream was to become a musician, but destiny had other plans.

Akua Tia disclosed that her life changed dramatically at the age of four when she became possessed by the deity.

She said her father strongly opposed her path into priesthood, as he had hoped she would move abroad and pursue a different future. She, too, resisted the calling at first, believing her future lies in music.

However, according to her, the spiritual forces that chose her did not allow her to follow that path.

She said despite her passion for music, she had no choice but to embrace her role as a priestess.

“It got to a point where they tried to ensure I was not made a traditional priestess. Due to this, the deity worked against my mother’s finances as a form of punishment. When I was possessed by the deity, I was initially against it because I was good at singing and hoped to grow up to become a musician,” she explained.

She also touched on questions about her personal life, noting that marriage is not something she intends to pursue.

She added that if she ever decides to marry in the future, it would require the knowledge and approval of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as there are specific rites that must be performed.
