Ghanaian actor and film producer, Kwaku Manu, has disclosed that he voted for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) because of his admiration for President John Dramani Mahama, citing the President’s leadership style and approach to governance.
Speaking on UTV’s Atuu show on January 17, 2026, Kwaku Manu said his decision was influenced by President Mahama’s humility, patience, and willingness to listen to the concerns of ordinary Ghanaians.
According to him, these qualities set the president apart and make him appealing beyond party lines.
Even after winning the elections, Mahama is still humble – Kwaku Manu
The actor explained that while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was attractive in the past, particularly during the era of former president John Agyekum Kufuor, his perspective on politics has evolved with age and experience.
“When I was younger, I voted strictly along party lines, but as I grew older, I realised that is not how it is supposed to be,” he noted.
Kwaku Manu stressed that voting in Ghana today should be based on development and job creation rather than party loyalty.
He added that his travels outside the country have made him appreciate Ghana’s natural endowments, describing the country as ‘heaven on earth’ in terms of resources, which he believes require competent leadership to fully harness.
Kwaku Manu further praised president Mahama’s current administration, pointing out that he appointed individuals based on competence rather than personal relationships.

“If you take a close look at Mahama’s current term in office you’ll realise that he didn’t use his classmates but rather people like Sam George, Sammy Gyamfi, Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ato Forson and the likes,” he indicated.
He mentioned figures such as Sam George, Sammy Gyamfi, Dr Frank Amoakohene and Dr Cassiel Ato Forson as examples, adding that their performance demonstrates a focus on productivity and results.
The actor commended Dr Frank Amoakohene for being accessible and responsive to emergencies, describing it as evidence of effective governance at the regional level.
He noted that Mahama’s modest and simple convoy reflects his humble leadership style.
Kwaku Manu disclosed that a member of the Mahama’s administration once told him that he had warned appointees that anyone who fails in their duties would be made an example of.
He emphasisied that governance should be about delivering results for the people, not about political parties.
