Afi Amoro, CEO of Jandel Ltd., one of Ghana’s biggest decoration firms, has shared how a passion for flowers grown in her mother’s garden evolved into a thriving event innovation and floral business.

Amoro, recalling her early beginnings during a chat with Elsie Lamar on GhanaWeb’s Talkertainment, described how she birthed the idea while working as a secretary.

“I realised that my flowers had value. And those were flowers I was picking from my mother’s garden. And doing it for free for my boss.

“Eventually it became something that I realised could earn some money for me. So I decided to work on turning the hobby into a profession.

“I actually worked as a secretary for 17 years, and it was increasingly getting difficult paying the bills. I was a single parent with two lovely children, and I wanted to get the best for them.

“And then just when I just had a desire that, ’Afi, you can be more than where you are now,’” she said.

Even while pursuing university studies, she continued her side hustle, arranging flowers for campus events and students.

So even when I went into the university to study, I was still cultivating that habit of doing flowers.

And the students were really warming up to it. So gospel rock shows, Hall Weeks, and all that kind of thing. I found myself doing bits and pieces.

She even shared her experience delivering flowers at midnight during Valentine’s Day while in the university.

“Valentine’s Day was wild. It was a whole week of no lectures for me. I will be preparing. I was delivering at midnight. People were warning me not to deliver past midnight. It was exciting. It was really wild. But it’s calmer now,” she said amid laughter.

Today, Jandel Ltd stands as one of Ghana’s leading event management firms, celebrated for its creativity and adaptability.
