Legendary Ghanaian highlife musician Kojo Antwi has attributed his long and enduring marriage of more than 53 years to faith and self-control.

Speaking in an interview with Bola Ray on Starr FM on February 12, 2026, the acclaimed “Mr. Music Man” reflected on the longevity of his marriage.

When asked how long he had been married, he replied, “More than 53 years, you need to be giving me an award for that,” he laughed.

Asked how he resisted temptations common in the music industry, Kojo Antwi credited what he described as “the blessings of God” and a guiding spirit that kept him grounded.

“There is something like a spirit that just takes over you. So you don’t think straight. That’s why you have issues where people can sleep with their own daughters and all that. When it comes over you, you do it before you think about it. You need a lot of self-control.

“And as a musician, I’ve had a lot of that. At a certain point, I used to have a picture of my girlfriend (now wife) in a necklace on me. It’s something that I was proud of,” he disclosed.

He also noted that she is among the few people he has ever written songs about, alongside his parents and Ghana’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah.

“God has kept me out of trouble. And my woman plays part of it. Everywhere I go, she’s there with me,” he said.

Kojo Antwi urged other musicians to learn to appreciate and respect the women in their lives, noting that it is an effective way to avoid situations of infidelity.

“You seriously need to work at it. Where you see beauty in everything she does. Women must be appreciated in everything they do. I’ve been blessed to have someone that I love,” he added.
