They say grief never truly ends. The pain of losing a loved one lingers, especially when the bond was deep.

For Ghanaian highlife singer, Akwaboah Jnr, the loss of his father, the legendary Akwaboah Snr, remains a wound that hasn’t fully healed.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime TV, Akwaboah Jnr narrated how the absence of his father has continued to impact him both emotionally and professionally.

“My father was more than just a dad, he was my mentor and editor. He corrected my lyrics, rhythms, choruses, beats, everything, before I released any song. Now I have to do it all by myself,” he said.

Reflecting on the depth of his loss, he added: “It’s a big blow I haven’t been able to get over. I miss him every time I’m about to release a new song. Even with this one, ‘Obinim’, he would have listened to the chorus, properly corrected the beats, and made changes where he saw fit.”

Despite the pain, Akwaboah noted that the experience has also made him stronger. “As much as it hurts, it has toughened me. I’ve come to realize that I now have to rely on myself.”
