Ghanaian highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has declared himself the pioneer of Valentine’s Day concerts in Ghana.

According to him, his annual “Love Night” concert, held on Valentine’s Day, has become one of the most anticipated events on the day in the country.

In an interview with Hitz FM on January 28, 2025, Kwabena Kwabena explained that he organised the first Valentine’s concert dubbed “Air14” on February 14, 2014.

He said he started the tradition in 2014, adding that it should not be an issue for other artistes to host events on the same day.

“Sometimes when I hear certain things, I let it slide, but sometimes we must be candid with what we say. On February 14, 2014, that was the first time I did a Valentine’s concert, and I called it Air14, so I started Valentine shows. It shouldn’t be a problem if anyone else wants to do an event on the 14th because there are a lot of people out there who want to go out and have fun,” he stated.

Kwabena Kwabena also said while artistes are free to organise shows on Valentine’s Day, no artiste should claim exclusive ownership of the day.

“As much as any artist can make a claim to that particular day, that’s very unfortunate because I started it. If there should be a problem, I should be the one to say I have an issue with someone doing a show on the 14th. It doesn’t add up. Any artist can organize a show on February 14th, but no artist should claim it’s theirs,” he added.
