Dutch player of Ghanaian descent, Jeremie Frimpong, has opened up about his familiarity with the Ghanaian culture despite not stepping foot in the country.

The Bayer Leverkusen defender mentioned that his parents taught him how to speak the Ghanaian language, Twi, at an early age, and he is currently accustomed to it.

The player noted that he speaks Twi with his parents during conversations and also at home during interactions.

Frimpong said that he plans to visit Ghana for the first time to learn more about the culture and familiarize himself with the people.

“I am a Ghanaian, so every time I speak to my parents in Twi. They taught me the language, so when I am home, I speak Twi. I have never been to Ghana before, but I will go. I just learned Twi from my parents,” he told Nigerian reporter Oma Akatugba after Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

Frimpong was born in Amsterdam in the Netherlands to parent of Ghanaian descent.

Jeremie Frimpong made his debut for the Netherlands national team in October 2023, when they lost 2-1 to France in the 2024 Euro qualifiers.

He was a member of the Netherlands squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup but did not make any appearances at the tournament.

He has been an integral part of Leverkusen’s success in recent times, especially during the 2023/24 season, where the team won the German Bundesliga with an unbeaten record and the DFB Pokal trophy.
