Thomas Nunoo says he once turned down a bribe from football administrator Alhaji Karim Grusah Thomas Nunoo says he once turned down a bribe from football administrator Alhaji Karim Grusah

Retired Ghanaian referee Thomas Nunoo has revealed that he once turned down a bribe from football administrator Alhaji Karim Grusah during his officiating career.

In an interview with Asempa FM, Nunoo, now serving as a CAF and FIFA instructor, said Grusah attempted to influence his decisions ahead of a Premier League match.

Nunoo disclosed that he reported the incident to the Premier League Board, then chaired by Welbeck Abra-Appiah.

“During my days of officiating games, I never accepted a bribe or being compromised,” he categorically said.

“The only person who tried to influence me by bribing me was Alhaji Grusah, but I reported him to the Premier League Board, which was chaired by Welbeck Abra-Appiah. Alhaji Grudsah got angry because his club ended up losing the game, and we ended up arguing on the radio,” he added.

Nunoo urged referees to remain steadfast and to report any attempts by officials to sway their decisions.

“I will urge all referees to be firm and not to accept any bribe or compromise from anyone,” he said.

“You can accept whatever an administrator wants to offer them, but they should further report them to the Football Association.”

The issue of refereeing has become a major talking point in the ongoing 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, with many stakeholders expressing concern over inconsistent performances by match officials.
