Edwin Gadayi finished second in the men’s 200m final at the 2025 CAA championship

Ghana’s Edwin Gadayi, has expressed his disappointments after finishing second in the men’s 200m final at the CAA regional II senior athletics championships held at the University of Ghana Stadium on August 19, 2025.

Gadayi, who clocked 21.14 seconds, completed behind Nigeria’s Chidera Ezeakor who took gold, while fellow Ghanaian Shaibu Marizuk took bronze providing a dual podium finish for the host nation.

Despite his powerful showing, Gadayi, a 2024 SWAG Athlete of the Year and recent GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human champion, fell short of his goal to replicate his form in the championships.

While time clocked is competitive, he did not meet the Olympic qualifying standard, adding to his frustration as he aims for global stages like the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

In an interview with Sporty FM, Gadayi conveyed his mixed feeling, expressing, “I’m disappointed because I really wanted to win the 200m and make my country proud again.”

Gadayi, added “This is a setback, the time i finished was bad but I’ll keep pushing. I will go home and work on somethings to get better for the next one.”

Ghana’s overall performance at the championships was strong, but Gadayi’s focus remains on achieving a personal best and Olympic qualification.
