Antoine Semenyo has stated that playing for Manchester City was never something he realistically imagined during his early days at Bristol City, revealing that his sole focus at the time was simply breaking into the first team and proving that he belonged.

Speaking to City Media, the Ghana international reflected on a 2018 clash between Bristol City and Manchester City, a game in which he watched stars such as Kevin De Bruyne and Vincent Kompany in action.

While the occasion left an impression on him, he insists a move to a club of City’s stature felt far beyond his horizon then.

“I was at that match [Bristol City vs Man City, 2018]. Kevin De Bruyne, Vincent Kompany, yeah, I remember that was a great game. Did I imagine playing for a team like City at that point? No. I think I was very realistic,” he said.

At that stage of his career, Semenyo was still trying to establish himself in the Championship side.

“I was just kind of like, solidifying myself in the first team [at Bristol City]. I was trying to work hard and make sure I’m the first name on the team sheet… I didn’t really think that far ahead,” he explained.

Since completing his move to City in January 2026, the 26-year-old has adjusted quickly to life at the Etihad.

Known for his pace, directness and work rate, Semenyo has slotted seamlessly into Pep Guardiola’s attacking system, earning praise for his intensity and ability to stretch defences.
