Veteran Ghanaian sound engineer and music producer, Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as Fredyma, has opened up about the devastating emotional toll he suffered following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking in an interview on Starr Showbiz with Feeling Daddy on Starr 103.5 FM on Saturday, August 23, Fredyma admitted that the election results left him so overwhelmed that he almost suffered a stroke.

“I nearly had stroke. I will show you, my picture. That night, around 2 a.m., when the NPP lost, I felt like my whole world had ended,” he revealed.

According to him, the defeat struck him like a personal tragedy, leaving him emotionally broken. He described the night of the election outcome as one of the darkest moments in his life, noting that the shock and disappointment sent his health into a critical state.

Fredyma said he had to battle with anxiety and fear of the future in the days that followed but eventually realized that life had to move on.

“After about a week, I told myself, Charlie, after all, what is life? We need to move on because you don’t know what tomorrow holds,” he recounted.

The award-winning producer stressed that while politics can deeply affect individuals, it should not be taken as a do-or-die affair. He urged Ghanaians not to let political outcomes endanger their health but rather see them as part of the democratic process.

Reflecting on his near-death experience, Fredyma advised supporters of political parties to develop resilience and maintain balance, regardless of electoral outcomes.

“It’s not about politics alone; it’s about interest. But when your interest goes against you, you should remind yourself that life is bigger than politics. That is how I survived the shock,” he explained.
