Head of the Nmati Abonase Quarter at Konadu We, La Shikitele, Nii Adjei Koofeh IV, has denied any responsibility for the demolition of some structures at the Laboma Beach Resort.
He explained that the management of the resort had been cautioned on several occasions against putting up structures within the buffer zone of the Kpeshie Lagoon, but failed to comply with the directives.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in La on Sunday September 20, the kingmaker maintained that the demolition was an action undertaken by the government and, therefore, he should not be blamed or targeted over the exercise.
On Sunday, September 13, several structures, including the popular Pink Flamingo Lounge at Laboma Beach in the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality, were demolished by the Post-Flood Mitigation Task Force.
The demolition formed part of efforts to reclaim the protected buffer zone of the Kpeshie Lagoon and strengthen measures to tackle flooding in the area.
The exercise followed an August 7 directive for the removal of structures encroaching on waterways and their buffer zones, as part of broader efforts to address flooding and restore natural drainage channels across the Greater Accra Region.
Following the demolition, allegations emerged that La Shikitele, Nii Adjei Koofeh IV, had spearheaded the exercise.
However, speaking at a town hall meeting in La, the kingmaker denied the allegations, insisting that the demolition was carried out by the government and that he should neither be blamed nor targeted for the exercise.
Nii Adjei Koofeh IV who is also the head of Nmati Abonasi Quater further stated that vendors affected by the demolition should direct their concerns to the management of Laboma Beach Resort rather than hold him responsible for the exercise.
