Popular event organiser and comedian, OB Amponsah, has disclosed that he has yet to make a profit from his comedy events.
In an interview on Accra-based Hitz FM on January 20, 2025, Amponsah disclosed that his recent comedy special at Bukom Boxing Arena on December 21, 2024, resulted in a significant financial loss.
“No, even the just-ended one at Bukom Boxing Arena, I made a loss of about GH₵40,000. I’ve done about five comedy specials with no profit,” he stated.
Amponsah explained that despite the financial setbacks, he views the investment in his craft as valuable.
“And that is what George Quaye said about investing in oneself, so all the money that I spend, even if it doesn’t come back as profit, it would come back into my craft,” he said.
He concluded by acknowledging the harsh reality of the comedy industry, saying, “So, simply, we don’t make profits.”
