    Nana Ama McBrown

Nana Ama McBrown has revealed how an attempt to end a two-year relationship turned violent. She recounted how she escaped to the police after her former partner assaulted her over a passport retrieval dispute.

The celebrated actress shared the experience on ‘Onua Showtime’, where she urged people to recognise the dangers of abusive relationships and walk away before situations escalate. She emphasised that abuse should not be tolerated, whether it takes the form of verbal attacks, emotional mistreatment or physical violence.

“When we are in relationships, and there is abuse, whether it is verbal, emotional or whatever, we should have a way of healing ourselves, and if we can move on, we move on. You don’t wait till the last point because it can bring a lot of unwanted situations,” she averred.

McBrown disclosed that the relationship began with promises from a man who had assured her that he would relocate her to London. However, she later discovered that he was involved with multiple women.

She recalled that her visits to his residence frequently exposed his infidelity, as she would arrive to find another woman in the house. On some occasions, she had to wait for him to finish spending time with the other woman before he could attend to her.

The situation eventually led McBrown to end the relationship after two years. However, an attempt to retrieve her passport from the man resulted in a confrontation that left her physically assaulted.

According to the actress, the incident was particularly shocking because it was the first time a man had physically attacked her. She said the man apologised after hitting her and later offered to escort her home.

“That was the first time a man laid his hand on me… After he hit me, he regretted it and kept saying sorry. He decided to escort me home and sat in the small car I was driving at the time, but when we got to one of the police barriers, I quickly got down and ran to the police to arrest him because he had beaten me. Yes, I got him arrested,” she disclosed.

McBrown said she sustained only minor injuries, which healed within a few days. Despite the physical wounds disappearing quickly, the experience left her with a lasting lesson about how to end relationships, particularly when there is a risk of violence.

She explained that she no longer intends to announce her decision to break up with a partner before making the necessary arrangements to leave. Instead, she prefers to prepare quietly and walk away when she is ready, given the uncertainty surrounding how an abusive partner might respond.

“From that day I learned that when I want to break up with someone, I’m not going to tell them. I will plan my exit quietly, and when I am ready, I will leave because I don’t know the kind of mood the person will be in,” Nana Ama McBrown stated.
