Member of Parliament-elect for Tema Central constituency, Ebi Bright, has narrated how she felt discouraged by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) before the just-ended ended 2024 election.

In an interview on 3FM on December 17, 2024, the actress-turned-politician, who contested on the ticket of the NDC, noted that the party executives didn’t give her the needed attention because they believed her constituency was the stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

She explained that she felt insulted by the action of her party and also how people claim that Tema Central is for the NPP.

“I dared say this, and I would say it now because I am very grateful for the attention and the support I am receiving from my party today. Because it was unexpected but totally necessary. Tema Central was a seat that they had all given up on, and this is reflected even in the way I was treated. To be told time and time again even by the party and people in authority that we can’t be bothered by your issue because Tema Central is impossible.

“I will tell you this very honestly: I felt insulted not only for myself but also for the people of Tema Central to be classified in that manner. You will hear people saying that if you bring a goat to contest in the election, we will vote for it, and you don’t give us a chance,” she said.

The MP-elect added that she has however started receiving pressure from her constituents to do better than her predecessors.

“As we speak today, people are already giving me pressure. You have to perform and serve your people; otherwise, know this is conditional, and this is what people feel while in service. To feel the heat and not too comfortable. I think the NPP has gotten too comfortable, and the NDC couldn’t be bothered. But I am glad I stacked it through,” she added.

Ebi Bright ran for the Tema Central Parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress.

Bright received a total of 18,539 votes, narrowly defeating her opponent, Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 18,421 votes.

This is the second time the MP-elect has run for the seat in the constituency.
