British rapper, Irving Ampofo Adjei, popularly known as Headie One, has opened up on his deep-rooted connection to Ghana, describing it as a creative haven that continues to shape both his sound and his spirit.

In an exclusive interview with Creative Accra Magazine, the UK drill sensation reflected on how time spent in Ghana brings him peace, perspective, and artistic clarity.

“It’s just home,” he said, referencing his Ghanaian heritage, his grandparents who still live there, and his own formative years spent attending school in the country.

More than just a family tie, Headie said Ghana has become a part of his creative process.

He talked about how the country’s slower pace and laid-back energy has help him tap into a more relaxed and experimental version of himself.

“I feel like I can create with a clear mind here. It’s helped me feel more confident experimenting with that Afro sound,” he said.

Known for fusing gritty UK drill with melodic and Afro-inspired rhythms, Headie One credits Ghana’s atmosphere for giving his music a unique energy.

“There’s peace, perspective, and a kind of stillness that makes the sound hit differently,” he explained.

Asked about the difference between how he is perceived in the UK and in Ghana, Headie One said: “The UK sees the serious side. Ghana gets the relaxed version of me. I laugh a lot here, it brings that out of me. Ghanaians are chilled and hilarious too.”
