Long before ACP Kofi Sarpong became a celebrated name in gospel music, his devotion to church life came with challenges that few ever saw.

The Ghanaian singer opened up on Neat FM on January 16, 2026, about the financial struggles that marked his early years in service. Despite giving himself fully to church work, he often found himself without even the clothes needed to attend services.

“I put my all into my church and I was involved in everything they do in church. Sometimes, getting clothes for church was difficult for me. I used to beg for clothes and wear to church,” he said.

Sarpong shared that looking presentable often relied on the generosity of friends. One friend, in particular, quietly helped him navigate those moments.

“One of my friends would pack his clothes to wash, then I go and select what to wear to church,” he stated.

Even amid these hardships, Sarpong refused to let his circumstances dim his spirit. He maintained a joyful presence in church, leaving others unaware of the struggles he faced.

“Despite the struggles, no one knew what I was going through. I would sing and dance in church as if I had no worries. That’s what showed that I was genuinely worshipping God,” he explained.

Reflecting on those days, the gospel singer emphasized that poverty never became a reason to compromise his worship. The experience, he said, only deepened his faith and appreciation for life.

“I didn’t look at my situation at that time to make excuses for worshipping God the right way. Those who were born into riches should thank God it’s not easy to be poor,” ACP Kofi Sarpong further stated.
