Benjamin Asare plays for Accra Hearts of Oak

Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has expressed his utmost appreciation to the technical team for giving him the chance to play for the team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

He indicated that he was pleased to be handed the starting role in the Black Stars team, despite being a new member.

The Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper also thanked Ghanaians for their unwavering support, which gave him the confidence to keep two clean sheets in his first two matches.

“I would like to thank God for this opportunity and also all the leaders of the team for reposing their trust in me. I want to make the fans and the general Ghanaian populace happy, and we are grateful for this support,” Asare said after Ghana’s game against Madagascar.

Asare kept two clean sheets in Ghana’s 5-0 win over Chad and 3-0 victory over Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

His performance has prompted head coach Otto Addo to declare him the team’s first-choice goalkeeper over Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott.

After six matches played, Ghana lead Group I with 15 points, followed by Madagascar with 10 points, while Mali lie in third position with 9 points.
