Veteran actor Fred Amugi has confidently declared that no woman can ever make him go hungry, thanks to his exceptional cooking skills.

He made this bold statement on GTV’s Breakfast Show, where he revealed that his signature dish is okro stew, which he uniquely prepares using coconut oil instead of the traditional palm oil.

Amugi shared that in his household, okro stew is often served with rice, highlighting his versatility in pairing dishes. The actor jokingly offered to cook for the interviewer someday, assuring the host, Kafui Dey, that he would not doubt his culinary abilities or suspect that a woman had prepared the meal for him.

According to Amugi, his passion for cooking dates back to his childhood. He began cooking at the age of nine, when his mother would assign him cooking duties for specific weeks. On other days, she would have him observe while she cooked, teaching him valuable skills.

Mr Amugi’s expertise extends beyond okro stew; he revealed that he can also pound and turn fufu independently, showcasing his proficiency in traditional Ghanaian cuisine.

Amugi further recounted how his father would often tell him, “What the girls can do, you should be able to do too,” a lesson he says has greatly influenced him.

The actor appeared on the show to talk about the Ghana Must Go stage play, written by celebrated playwright Latif Abubakar. The play is set to premiere on May 24–25, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The story revolves around a group of friends who, tired of life in the diaspora, return to Ghana to face an uncertain future and rediscover their roots.
