A Ghanaian man, Clement Essilfie, is appealing to the public for assistance to bring his wife’s body back home to Ghana after she was struck and killed by a car in Florence, Kentucky in the United States on Friday, October 11, 2025.

The accident happened on the Turfway Road, west of Drexel Avenue, following a collision involving a pedestrian, according to a report by graphic.com.gh on Monday, October 13, 2025.

It said a Chevrolet Cruze hit his 53-year-old wife, Edith Obeng, while she walked in the right westbound lane.

The driver immediately stopped and remained at the scene, cooperating fully with authorities.

Essilfie recounted the moment the police officers delivered him the devastating news about his wife’s death.

“They said, Clement, you are the one we’re looking for. So, they took me outside and it was there and then that I was told my wife wouldn’t make it,” Essilfie said.

The report said Florence police confirmed that the driver of the Chevrolet Cruze was not injured and cooperated with the investigation.

Consequently, the authorities noted that they do not anticipate filing criminal charges in connection with the crash.

Essilfie’s wife was heading to her usual bus stop to go to work at the Florence Walmart when the incident happened.

“Essilfie and his wife are immigrants from Ghana. He moved to the United States in 2010, married Obeng in 2018, and she relocated to Kentucky to join him in 2023. Now, he is trying to find a way to bring his wife’s body back to Ghana to be laid to rest and is asking the public for help,” the report said.

A Family friend, Abigail Danquah has started raising funds to help Essilfie and his family bring his wife’s body back to Ghana.

“It is a very difficult situation for us. The wife is so nice. Like, ask Monsignor, if you meet her, you love her,” Ben Danquah, a close family friend narrated.

The report noted that Essilfie’s priest, Monsignor Dominic Fosu, explained the process of repatriating a deceased person across the globe.

“We need about four to six weeks to put things together because documentation has to be ready. And we need to contact the Ghanaian embassy for a letter,” he said.
