- Critics are calling for stricter rules on social media
A glamorous social media personality who has attracted more than 223,000 followers – many of them sports fans – is at the centre of growing scrutiny after claims the account is not real.
The Instagram profile @rebeckahemsee appears to show a young woman posting sports lifestyle content, including gym wear, casual outfits and match-day style posts.
But questions have emerged online over whether the woman behind the account exists at all.
The account’s bio describes her as a training nurse practitioner and encourages followers to engage directly, a detail that has helped build authenticity among users.
However, multiple users across social media have raised concerns that the images posted to the account appear to be artificially generated.
‘It’s a robot,’ one commented.
Glamorous influencer with over 223,000 followers faces scrutiny as users claim her entire social media presence is artificially generated content
Posts claiming meetings with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton have further fuelled scepticism among increasingly concerned social media users
Critics on Reddit are calling for stricter rules, arguing platforms must clearly label artificial intelligence generated influencer content online
But every comment declaring the obviously AI-generated content to be fake, there are hundreds of love heart reactions, and gushing comments on her ‘beauty’.
The profile itself does not declare itself to be AI, either. In fact, it openly opts to con its subscriber base.
That includes a post that shows ‘Rebecca’ with Formula 1 driver Charles Laclerc, an image the profile claims is genuine.
‘Met Charles Leclerc while doing some marketing work for a luxury watch brand,’ the profile posted.
‘I’ve been a huge fan for years so this was such a surreal moment. I’m still smiling like an idiot.’
The profile also claims to be good buddies with golf champion Bryson DeChambeau.
‘Reconnected with Bryson DeChambeau at the golf. Always a pleasure to catch up with a legend like himself. Hopefully we can get a round of golf in one day,’ the profile posted.
The profile also claims to have visited Australia for the Melbourne GP, where it claims to have met Lewis Hamilton.
‘Great driving from Lewis and the Ferrari team at the Australian Grand Prix. Got to meet Lewis after the race while working at the event such a cool experience,’ it posted.
The account has been called out on social media platform Reddit, with users calling for Instagram to place restrictions on AI content claiming to be authentic.
‘For me the bigger issue is what does to a social media as a whole and how it’s actually shocking there are very little restrictions placed on AI content uploaded to social media platforms,’ one user posted.
‘I strongly believe users should know if there content is AI or not, it’s also more common for younger people to notice AI better than older pepe and this account is directly targeting older men for that reason.’
