As Senegal erupted in celebration over their second Africa Cup of Nations triumph, the jubilations went beyond the packed streets of Dakar to the prison cells.

Videos circulating online captured an emotional moment as inmates joined the nationwide festivities from their cells.

While fans gathered outside correctional facilities waving flags and singing, voices could be heard rising from within the prison walls.

Prisoners, some holding Senegal jerseys, sang along in unity, their chants blending with the supporters outside.

The scenes struck a powerful chord, reminding many that football has a unique way of dissolving barriers, even if only for a night.

Senegal secured the AFCON title with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Morocco in Rabat on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

The decisive goal came after extra time in a tense final that tested the resolve of both sides before the Lions of Teranga finally roared in triumph.

The team returned home just after midnight on Monday, January 19, 2026, touching down in Dakar to a hero’s welcome.

They were received by the President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye before embarking on a grand trophy parade through the capital on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

Thousands lined the streets, dancing, singing, and waving the national colors as the champions proudly displayed the coveted trophy.
