Sarkodie has paid tribute to the late Murtala Mohammed

While Ghana mourns the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has paid tribute to the late Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, one of the victims of the crash.

In a post shared on X on August 7, 2025, Sarkodie reflected on how he had previously distanced himself from politics due to the negative perception many Ghanaians hold about politicians.

However, Sarkodie noted that it was only after the tragedy that he discovered a powerful video of the late minister.

“I find it difficult to connect with any politician because of the general perception that most of them have created among the public. It’s sad that it took such a tragic incident for me to come across this footage of Hon. Murtala Mohammed. May his soul rest in peace. This message is powerful and deserves to be shared,” Sarkodie wrote.

The video, which has since gone viral, shows Dr Murtala Mohammed passionately addressing fellow politicians at a public gathering, warning against corruption.

“If you take any money which belongs to the state, you will answer to the people on the Day of Judgement… One of the major challenges confronting us in this country is corruption,” he was heard saying in the video.

What happened on Dark Wednesday?

On August 6, 2025, a Ghana Air Force Z-9 military helicopter crashed in the Ashanti Region while en route from Accra to Obuasi on a high-level mission to assess illegal mining operations.

All eight people on board perished.

President John Mahama declared three days of national mourning, ordered flags to be flown at half-mast, and suspended official duties in honour of the deceased.
